Being and making Disciple (John Staples 목사) God never expected us to be satisfied to just be converts or satisfied just with being saved. God always intended us to be disciples and not just converts. Though many in the church have made these distinctions in regard to their faith and relationship with Jesus, the Bible is clear that being a child of God, a Christian, a believer, essentially meant to be a disciple of Jesus—they are all one in the same.
Jesus calls all to be his disciples. Disciples are ones who follow Jesus, learns from him, and lives like him. All those who express belief in Jesus must follow and respond in obedience to the commands of Jesus. That is the call of the Christian faith. So a disciple of Jesus is not someone who simply wants to know what Jesus taught, but to love Jesus more than anything and anyone in this world, but to also wants to do what Jesus did and to live as Jesus lived. For everything else the church does, making disciples is at the core of what we are about. It doesn’t matter if you’re still growing yourself or even if you’re a brand-new Christian. Every disciple of Jesus can be a disciple-maker. Every Christian is born to reproduce and multiple. May the love of God compel us to be disciples that make disciples that make disciples. We, us, the church are God’s method. Prayer: Father God, thank you for being such a good and loving Father. As you love us, may we love you and others. Help us to receive the calling of what it means to be your disciple and that our lives would be lived in ways to make others your disciples as well.
